MOCKUP PAGES OF UPCOMING... SECRET OF CHRISTMAS , CD -
CD tunes Description A 14-SONG HOLIDAY TREAT from the CAPTAIN & TENNILLE! THE SECRET OF CHRISTMAS Captain and Tennille Liner Notes by Toni Tennille --------------------------------------------- A CHRISTMAS MESSAGE FROM TONI Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you! Daryl and I hope you have your most wonderful holiday season this year, and that our music will be a part of your Christmases this year and for many years to come. Daryl and I had our first hit record, LOVE WILL KEEP US TOGETHER, in 1975, and almost yearly since then, friends and fans have asked when we were going to record a Christmas album. Somehow we never got around to it until now, but better late than never, as the wise man said. We had the most wonderful time making this CD......choosing the songs, writing, arranging and recording this music. Of course, it represents our particular style, and as many of you know, we like all kinds of music. I think there is a holiday song here for just about everyone...adults and children, alike. I must confess that, as we were working on the music, I was thinking a LOT about the children. I was thinking that I would love to see them smile and hear them laugh when they listen to I WANT A HIPPOPOTAMUS FOR CHRISTMAS, and HERE COMES SANTA CLAUS, and several other songs we did with kids in mind. There are also some lovely songs that adults will particularly enjoy, such as the classic HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS, and other ballads. I wrote four original Christmas songs for the CD...TAHOE SNOW, CHRISTMAS IN CALIFORNIA, THE CHRISTMAS STAR, and BOOGIE BABY CHRISTMAS, and they are quite varied in style. Its funny....when I write, I almost have no idea what is going to "come through", but it is really fun to write it all down when it "arrives". I think you will find Daryls three instrumentals quite fascinating....sometimes charming, sometimes outright funny, and sometimes, as in the case of DARYL OF THE BELLS, a real musical trip through Daryls mind! What is the secret of Christmas? The song that closes this album, written by the great American songwriters, Sammy Cahn and Jimmy Van Heusen, discloses the secret with these lines...."so may I suggest, the secret of Christmas is not the things you do at Christmas time, but the Christmas things you do all year through." My sentiments exactly. Have a glorious holiday season. TONI TENNILLE SONGS THE SONGS 1. MERRY CHRISTMAS - I came across this lovely song in a Christmas songbook. I had never heard it before, but was struck by the beautiful melody. I did a bit of research on the tune, and discovered that it was sung by Judy Garland in the 1949 film IN THE GOOD OLD SUMMERTIME. 2. ITS THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR - Andy Williams popularized this very charming, happy, holiday waltz. Daryl created the sound of a Christmas Merry-Go Round/Music Box for our version of the song. 3. I WANT A HIPPOPOTAMUS FOR CHRISTMAS - This song really is for the kids! Daryl and I have to thank our dear friend, Jennifer Dory-Pahl, for bringing this 1953 Christmas song to our attention. She looked it up on the internet for us, and I laughed out loud when I heard it. So preposterous, and so...well...hippopotamus, too. Listen for the hippo, gallumphing along in the background. In the instrumental section, youll hear him burp and say, "Im hungry." 4. HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS - This was the last song we chose for the CD. We needed just one more song, and couldnt make a decision. So I asked friends, family, and just about anyone I could find, what Christmas song they would most like to hear on this album. They chose this beautiful, classic song, sung by Judy Garland to Margaret OBrien (who played Judys little sister), in the 1944 film, MEET ME IN ST LOUIS. 5. LITTLE SAINT NICK - My sisters Jane, Louisa, Melissa and I sang this Beach Boy song, with Daryl on keyboards, on our 1976 Captain and Tennille Christmas Special. Daryl and I were able to save the original tracks from the TV show, and digitally remix and remaster them for this project. It brings back so many wonderful memories of singing with my sisters. Im the lowest voice (think BASS!), Louisa sings alto, Jane sings second soprano, and Melissa is the highest voice. We trade off on the leads throughout the tune. 6. HERE COMES SANTA
CLAUS - Daryl recorded this instrumental in the 1980s, but this is
the first major release for this "Captain and the Muskrats"
song. Daryl sometimes thinks of himself as the reincarnation of Spike
Jones. If you dont know who Spike was, look him up on the internet
